This simplified combat manual will show new players how to use certain game features.
Selecting your soldiers
Settlers with a disabled military skill (Red) won’t be drafted when you go to combat mode. However, they will continue working (. This creates the danger of them running into hostile forces unless an Emergency Shelter Zone has been designated).
Unfortunately, skills reset every time you do any job in job manager. It is best to get that one right away.
Establishing Patrol zones
Patrol zones are for those who, like me, don't care about micromanaging everything or don't want spend 10 minutes setting up each settler.
As you would in any other zone, you can simply build as many as necessary.
Assign as many soldiers as you wish (melee front, ranged in the back).
Notice: There are no limitations on the number you can a*sign to settlers.
Setting are self-explanatory
Permanent – They are permanent and can't do anything else than guard zone so good that you disable them if they don't have enough.
Shooting position — turn on for ranged and off for melee.
Allow hospital leave – let them get patched
Never give up, fight to the end
Create a combat squad
If you would like to set up a rapid response team for clearing buildings or caves, then again create Patrol Zone and a*sign settlers. Once they have gathered, simply select them all using the mouse and hit Draft Military.
Control Group (Combatteam 2 ) –
Another way to form a dedicated combat group is to use control group. Details are available in the Combat UI encyclopedia.
