Guide for Dead by Daylight – Characters to level up first as a new player.
• Your first options as a Killer.
As a new player with no extra purchased DLCs, you are probably wondering which one you should pick to invest those juicy points, and I’ll try to help a little bit with that. Let’s start with killer.
As a new killer, considering that you only have the base ones, I strongly recommend leveling up
Trapper for Brutal Strength
Wraith for Bloodhound,
Hillbilly for Enduring and Tinkerer
Nurse for A Nurse’s Calling and Thanatophobia
The thing here is getting at least level 40 with those three base killers to get their perks, and build it from there.
• Your first options as a Survivor.
This is an easy one to recommend. Let’s dive right into it.
For the survivors, I strongly recommend you leveling up Meg Thomas for Sprint Burst
This perk alone allows you to run from the killer even if you’re in a bad spot of the map, making you go to a safer place.
By leveling up Claudette Morel, you can get Self-care which allows you to heal yourself without a medkit.
Don’t care if people say to you that this is useless, specially when you’re learning the game, healing is super good, because you won’t be able to hold the killer for that long.
Dwight Fairfield has Bond, which helps if you feel lost and in need of healing by a teammate, even with more than 1000 hours in the game, I still love this perk since it gives me so much information with no downsides.
If you’re playing on PC (which I a*sume is the case) you probably already have William “Bill” Overbeck, and turns out that he has one of the best teachables perks in the entire game: Borrowed Time, which allow you to save a teammate on hook specially if the killer is camping. He also has Unbreakable which can help if the killer leaves you on the ground for a lot of time.
Another survivor worth mentioning is David King. He has a very useful perk to get some extra bloodpoints (We’re Gonna Live Forever) and also another exhaustion perk: Dead Hard, which allows you to avoid a hit while being injured.
Focusing on leveling up those characters to 40 is probably the best way to go if you don’t have any DLCs, since they allow you to learn the basics while having good stuff to use in your favor.
• What to do after getting all that?
This is very simple, for Killer side, you want perks that help you holding/slow the game down at least a little bit. There is also a major recommendation for Bloodpoints, which is getting Leatherface DLC for Barbecue & Chilli perk, which will help with the grind. Double points each match is a pretty good deal for the price they charge for this DLC.
Things I do recommend getting if you have enough Iridescent Shards to buy some killers:
The Clown for this:
The Hag for this:
The Plague for these two perks:
After getting all those perks you are pretty much, to be completely honest with you I don’t think you need DLC survivor perks in order to do well in this game, so you’ll be fine with the base ones.
That’s it, let me know if you have any questions about it.
