Guide for Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son – Groundhog Day VR Achievement Guide
Getting Started
It is recommended that you beat the game before consulting this guide. I am trying to keep this guide as spoiler-free as possible, but you will have a better experience (of the game and of this guide) regardless of spoilers if you beat the game before trying to get the achievements.
The achievements in this game are relatively easy to obtain, and can be acquired even after you’ve completely beaten the game, which is why I recommend beating the game first. Not only will this weed out achievements that are obtained automatically during the story, which will help you know which achievements you need, but it will also allow you to enjoy the game and the story without disrupting the pacing. The achievements will be listed in order of chronology (a*suming you’ve beaten the game), then difficulty. Unmissable achievements will be listed at the bottom.
A couple of general tips:
You can reset the scene or day at basically any point by opening your tablet, selecting settings, and tapping “Restart the Day” or “Restart the Scene”. We’ll be using this later on.
Any call that you receive can be instantly declined or hung up on. Doing this will not affect the day. Just make sure not to hang up on Alice from the Tip Top Cafe when you call her, as that will cancel the breakfast order.
Bedroom
From the Other Side
At the beginning of the day, right after you wake up, tune the radio on your nightstand until you hear a woman with a French accent speaking. If you can read the an*log display, it’s at about 100 FM, or just right of the middle.
Morning Wood
While laying in bed, grab the magazine of the nak*d model that’s next to the radio on your nightstand, and hold it until you trigger a dialogue.
Phil 1 – Radio 0
Pick up the radio and throw it.
Legendary Procrastinator
Teleport in between the couch and the armchair, next to the box of tissues. Pick up a tissue and try to make it into the basketball hoop that’s next to the door. Keep throwing tissues until you hit a score of 30.
Groundhog Obsession
This is the first groundhog card of seven that you will have to find throughout the day. Teleport over next to the desk chair. Grab an item of some kind and look up towards the ceiling. There should be a golden card leaning against the wooden rafters. Throw the item at it, and it should fall onto the armchair (even if you miss it and hit the rafters instead). Grab the card and wait for it to disappear.
Wasted!
Grab the bottle of alcohol that’s on the armchair, uncork it, and drink until you throw up.
For those who have beaten the game (or are at a part where you can do this), make sure to order breakfast from the Tip Top Cafe before continuing.
Living Room/Kitchen
The Final Touch
If you’ve ordered from the Tip Top Cafe, you’ll want to make sure to select the “Stay longer” option when talking to Rita. Once able, teleport over to the kitchen. Grab a carrot (either from the bowl on the counter or from the fridge), and open the window above the sink. Throw the carrot at the snowman’s face and the carrot should automatically snap into place as its nose. It may take a few throws.
Like a Chicken
This achievement can either be done in the kitchen, during the ceremony (with the donuts), in the cafe, or in the bar (with the olives or oranges), but the kitchen is the easiest. Simply place an item of food on the table and bend over to consume it. The achievement may also trigger if you hold the item above your head, look up, and drop it into your mouth.
Groundhog Obsession
Groundhog card number two is located in the oven. Teleport over to the stovetop and open up the oven. Grab the card from the rack and wait for it to disappear.
Bruce Force
Go over to the fridge, open it, and eat all of the kale that’s inside the drawer. Then, if able to, advance to the statue scene by teleporting over to the cappuccino machine, waiting for Jake, then telling him to “let it go” when prompted. If you didn’t order breakfast, you will not be able to get to the statue scene. Also, this option may not be available until late-game, so if you haven’t beaten it yet, you may have to make the cappuccino for Jake or do something else to continue to the statue scene. Once at the statue, simply punch it with a closed fist, and it should completely explode. Just to be clear, completing Brute Force will NOT also complete Plastic Surgery or Daddy Issues, so you will have to complete those separately.
Statue
Plastic Surgery
After completing Brute Force from the last section, restart the statue scene from your tablet. Go over to the statue, grab the tool of your choice, and destroy the head of the statue.
Armed to the Teeth
From here, you won’t have to restart the scene until all of these achievements are done. Grab both of the automatic tools from the tool rack and simultaneously use them on the statue. Be aware: If you are left-handed and have configured the game as such, I have heard that this achievement may not trigger unless you switch it to right-handed.
Daddy Issues
For this one, you’ll have to destroy the entire statue. Make sure you’re destroying the statue itself and not just the outside layer of rock, so as to not inadvertently “finish” the statue. You can also use both of the automatic tools to make this go quicker and get Armed to the Teeth as well, if you haven’t already.
You may want to restart the scene for upcoming achievements, then, without touching the statue, turn to your left and leave the park by teleporting to the walkway that’s to the right of the gazebo. You can leave the statue destroyed if you so please, however, it creates an extra round of dialogue for Rita and Ned when they see the statue that will ultimately make things much slower.
Outside Tip Top Cafe
Groundhog Obsession
Once you’ve loaded into the scene, look down and grab the coin next to your feet. Teleport to the newspaper box behind you, insert the coin, and pull down the handle. Grab groundhog card number three and wait for it to disappear.
When prompted, do NOT tell Ned and Sarah to do the Ryerson Shuffle! Instead, wait out the dialogue until Rita apologizes to Ned on your behalf, then select any dialogue option when Ned introduces Sarah (except the alleyway option, unless you’ve done all of the ceremony achievements). This step is necessary to access the cafe later.
Ceremony
Groundhogs in the Sky
When you’ve loaded into the ceremony, select the dialogue option “Sorry, not today.” when prompted by Rita. Then, teleport over to the merchandise table, open the donut box, and eat one of the donuts. The two chocolate donuts (top-left and bottom-right) are NOT laced, so I would eat those two on your first go, then eat a different donut. Reset the scene and repeat, eating a different donut each time until you’ve eaten every unique donut. If done right, and if I’m correct, this should only take 2 resets. I don’t think that this achievement will unlock if you attempt to eat all of them at once or even multiple of the laced ones in one go. I believe it just goes by which laced donut you ate first. I recommend eating them in some sort of pattern so as to not forget which ones you’ve eaten, like from left to right. You also may be able to reset the scene before you come off of your high, but if you want to be extra cautious, I would wait out the hallucinations. Have a fun trip!
Bullseye
For this achievement, all you have to do is shoot a t-shirt at a bird. The t-shirts are almost heat-seeking, so you should be able to get this one quite quickly. From the last achievement, reset the scene, then tell Rita that you’ll do the speech. Once on stage, put one slide in the projector, turn it on, switch to the new slide, then turn it off. An option will come up to quit the speech. Select that, and then you should be able to teleport to the t-shirt cannon minigame. Alternatively, from the donut achievement, you can wait out Ned’s speech and teleport to the t-shirt cannon minigame when he’s done. You’ll have to be quick for these next achievements, as there’s a time limit (albeit generous), so prep yourself. Reading the next three achievements in advance will likely prove helpful if you want to get this in one go.
Party Pooper
Shoot every balloon in sight. Sometimes, the balloons may be glitched and unable to be shot, so you may just get unlucky, but the t-shirts also lock onto the balloons. The balloons aren’t hard to spot, so you should be able to find all of them just by looking around. However, there are a few that are behind you and to the right that you may miss.
Groundhog Obsession
You will find groundhog card number four stuck to a cardboard cutout in front of the merchandise table while shooting t-shirts. Shoot the cutout with the t-shirt cannon, and the card should fly over to you. Grab it and wait for it to disappear.
Hasta la Vista Baby
For this one, you’ll have to shoot a t-shirt to every person that wants one. There are audio cues, so you should be able to find them pretty easily. Some people are hidden, like behind cardboard cutouts or behind other people, but they’re not hard to spot. The tricky ones are the kids being hoisted up by their parent because you only have a few seconds to shoot the t-shirt at them. Also keep in mind that you’ll have to shoot the signs out of peoples’ hands to be able to shoot the t-shirt to the people behind them.
After the ceremony, you’ll talk to Jake. He’ll say that he’s going to the hotel for some drinks and will ask if you want to come with. Make sure to select “I’ll go to the cafe”.
Alleyway
Friendly reminder that you can only choose the alleyway or the ceremony, you can’t go to both in the same day, so if you’ve been following the guide so far, you’ll have to skip this for now and come back later.
Witness Me!
This one’s pretty easy, just turn a can of spray paint towards your face, and spray it until the achievement unlocks.
Groundhog Obsession
Number four in our increasing groundhog card collection is hiding in the trashcan in the alleyway. Just follow the sound of that terrible music, show that Bluetooth speaker who’s boss, then lift the lid of the trashcan, and there will be another groundhog card! Grab it and wait for it to disappear.
Tip Top Cafe
Groundhog Obsession
Our sixth groundhog card awaits us at the counter of the cafe. But first, you’ll want to teleport over to the jukebox, select C24, then teleport back over to the counter. Alice will say something about never thinking you’d be the one to find it, and then she’ll set the card on the counter. Grab it and wait for it to disappear.
Dancing King
For this one, you’ll have to get a certain number of “gold hands” during the Ryerson Shuffle. According to another guide for this game, it’s 90%, but when I did it, it didn’t seem like I scored 90%, so I’m not sure how accurate that is. This achievement is a little tricky to achieve and may take quite a few attempts to get it right. So, to start, teleport back over to the jukebox and select A15. This will automatically begin the minigame. There’s not many things that I can say that’ll help, but there are a few good things to know. One is don’t put the cart before the horse. Memorizing which moves happen next is good, but you should try your best to simply mirror Ned’s movements, and not try to learn the whole dance. There are parts that will likely throw you off if you try to do it completely from memory. Especially during the chest-bumping section. There’s one time in that section where Ned slows down for ONE MOVE (timestamp in the video is about 1:33), so copying him is better than trying to keep to the rhythm from memory.
Another good thing to know is that, if you don’t get the achievement, you don’t have to wait out Ned’s dialogue. The achievement will pop up just after you finish your dance, so you don’t need to worry about waiting. Just open your tablet and reset the scene, then go over to the jukebox and select A15 again. Lastly, you can consult the YouTube video below to try and memorize the steps before going into the minigame. Personally, I just went in without watching it, but the video still may help. Good luck and practice patience!
Bar
Grog
During the drink mixing minigame, combine 4 or more drinks in the drink mixer and mix them. Pretty self-explanatory. Just make sure not to pour any one drink for too long, so that you have room for the other drinks. Also keep in mind that there’s a time limit to serve Sarah, so you’ll want to get this done pretty quickly. To get to the minigame again, teleport over to Sarah, then when prompted to say “I’m sorry”, just wait out the dialogue. This will cause her to call you “elusive and mysterious”, and you’ll be teleported behind the bar.
The Best Bartender in Pittsburgh
So, for this achievement, you just have to “juggle” alcohol bottles. You don’t even have to actually juggle three bottles, you just have to throw one bottle up in the air and catch it with the opposite hand. I had a lot of difficulty getting this achievement to unlock, and tried everything, but I believe what I was doing wrong was that I wasn’t throwing the bottle high enough. So if you’re having this issue, just try throwing the bottle quite high with your right hand and then catching it with your left.
Groundhog Obsession
Our seventh and final groundhog card! This one’s hidden in the far-right icebox (the one with the brown-bottle beer in it), stuck to the left wall. You may have to remove some beers to be able to access it. Grab the card and wait for it to disappear.
Tequila Works
Serve Sarah straight tequila! The tequila is the smallest bottle with the skull on it. It also has a small tag on the neck of the bottle that reads “tequila”. Serving her this will automatically end the scene, so make sure to hit “Replay Minigame” once the scene transition occurs.
World Peace
Toast to world peace. After you’ve reset the minigame, because Sarah won’t ask you to toast when served with just tequila, you’ll have to make her favorite drink. The recipe for her favorite drink is as follows:
- Grab tequila (the bottle with the skull label) and fill a drink mixer halfway with it.
- Fill the other half with the lime soda that’s in the middle-right icebox.
- Mix the two drinks together and pour the mixture into a gla*s, filling it just halfway.
- Grab the pomegranate grenadine and fill the last half of the gla*s with it.
Give the drink to Sarah and, if done right, she’ll call it a masterpiece. Then she’ll ask what you should toast to, and you should be able to select “World peace”.
Unmissable Achievements
All of these achievements should be unlocked by the time you finish the game. I will be listing these in the order in which I achieved them. This should be loosely chronological, but I know for a fact that some of these can be unlocked in different sequences, depending on which part of the story you end up focusing on first, so don’t worry if you have unlocked one or more of these out of the order I put them in.

Minigame Instructions
In case you’re looking at this guide after you’ve beaten the game just to find instructions on how to get back to the minigames (the Ryerson Shuffle and the drink mixing game), or perhaps you accidentally skipped over the instructions in the guide, I’m going to leave them here.
To get back to the Ryerson Shuffle
After leaving the house/statue scene, you will be teleported to the sidewalk outside of the Tip Top Cafe. Ned Ryerson will walk up, and you will be given one dialogue option, which is to tell Sarah and Ned to do the shuffle. Do NOT select this option. It will bar you from being able to get to the cafe and play the minigame. Wait out all of the Ned dialogue, then Rita will eventually apologize on your behalf. You’ll then continue onto the ceremony. If you don’t need to do the ceremony achievements, you can simply select “See you later”, and that will end the ceremony scene. Otherwise, do what you need to do at the ceremony until you get to the part where you’re talking to Jake after it has ended. Once speaking with Jake, he will say that he’s going to get drinks at the hotel, and ask you to join him. Select “I’ll go to the cafe”. From here, you will be able to access the Ryerson Shuffle minigame by teleporting to the jukebox and selecting A15.
To get back to the drink mixing minigame
For you to be able to get back to the drink mixing minigame, you will need to accomplish two things during the day. The first being that John and Sophie need to talk outside of the Tip Top Cafe. If you’ve beaten the game, this is already guaranteed, and there’s nothing that you can do that will prevent this from happening. The second is that you either need to have Ned and Sarah dance the Ryerson Shuffle outside of the Tip Top Cafe, or you need to (successfully) dance the Ryerson Shuffle with Ned at the cafe, and then convince him to invest in Sarah’s bookstore. So, if you followed most of the last instructions, but, for some reason, decided to go with Jake to the bar instead of going to the cafe, you will not be able to get back to the drink mixing minigame. That said, here’s how to get to the minigame from the bar. Teleport over to Sarah and wait for her dialogue to finish. If you’ve already beaten the game, then you will only be given one option, which is to say “I’m sorry”. Do NOT select this option. Wait it out until Sarah calls you “elusive and mysterious”. This will automatically trigger the drink mixing minigame, and you’ll be teleported behind the bar.
Fin.
Congratulations! You have just 100%’d Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son!
I hope that you have enjoyed the game as much as I did. Please feel free to leave a comment if you are stuck on something, if you have criticism (whether that be something as simple as sentence structure or something like how I’ve organized the list), or if I’ve made a mistake. This is my first time making a Steam guide, so there are bound to be a few, but I have tried my best to make it as clear, concise, and correct as possible. Thanks for reading!
